Industry Dry Goods: Analysis of the Development Status and Trends of China's Plastic Products Industry in 2022

1、 Overview of Plastic Products
Plastic products are a collective term for daily and industrial products made from plastic as the main raw material through extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, rolling, lamination, and other processes. They also include products processed and reproduced from recycled waste plastic; Excluding plastic shoe manufacturing.
2、 Production and Product Structure of Plastic Products in China
The plastic industry of China began at the beginning of the founding of the China, and has developed through reform and opening up. At present, it has established a complete and independent manufacturing system, which plays an important role in the national economy. China has become a major producer, consumer, and exporter of plastic products. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in December 2021, China's plastic product production reached 7.952 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%; From January to December 2021, the total production of plastic products reached 80.04 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.27%.
There are many categories of plastic products in China, with other plastics being the largest product category. From the perspective of segmented markets, in 2021, China's plastic film production reached 16.0871 million tons, accounting for 20.1%; The daily production of plastic is 7015300 tons, accounting for 8.76%; The production of synthetic leather is 3.2016 million tons, accounting for 4%; The output of foam plastics is 2.6609 million tons, accounting for 3.25%; The production of other plastics reached 51.1349 million tons, accounting for 63.89%.

From the regional distribution of production, domestic plastic products are mainly produced in East China, South China and Central China. In 2021, the output of plastic products in East China will be 36.9628 million tons, accounting for 46.18% of the country. South China has developed rapidly, with the output of plastic products reaching 16.3436 million tons, accounting for 20.42%. The output of plastic products in Central China is 10.0766 million tons, accounting for 12.59%. The production of plastic products in other regions is below ten million tons, with a total proportion of 20.81% in other regions.
3、 The demand for plastic products in China and the market size of plastic products
After years of development, the structural adjustment of China's plastic products industry has been strengthened, but the problem of structural surplus in low-end products is still prominent. The price war of low-end products has compressed profit margins, and there are not many high-tech products that can meet demand. A considerable number of advanced technology products still need to be imported. In recent years, China's plastic products have a competitive advantage in the international market and hold a relatively high share. However, due to the rise of international trade protectionism, technical barriers and trade frictions have shown a normalized feature, making it more difficult and risky for export-oriented enterprises to export their products.
According to customs data, in 2021, China's plastic product industry imported 1.7182 million tons and exported 25.4077 million tons. Based on domestic production, the apparent demand of China's plastic product industry reached 56.3503 million tons in 2021.
